Te Mania Nelson Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 07-Oct-2012
Very pale straw-yellow colour, this has a very firm, intense and penetrating bouquet of rose-petal florals underlined by exotic spices notes. Medium-dryish to taste, this has excellent concentration and drive on palate, the body full and packed with concentrated, tightly held fruit flavours of roses and Turkish Delight with exotic spices. Real depth and with smooth textures, a little heat is apparent, but not intrusive. This is still youthful. 50% WBP, and 7% fermented in old French oak to 15.0% alc. and 13.8 g/L rs. 18.5/20 Oct 2012 Brilliant straw-yellow colour with pale green hues, very fine and intense aromas of rose-petal florals and nuances of garden herbs show on bouquet, with freshness and lovely purity. Off-dry, this is a wine with excellent power, depth and concentration of rose petal and Turkish Delight fruit flavours. Subtle spice and musk notes emerge adding interest. The palate is rounded in texture with soft acidity and possesses an oily, mouthfilling richness. Some alcohol warmth adds to the power and body, and while noticeable, does not detract. This is a powerful, yet pure Gewurztraminer to match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit from the ‘Marshall' vineyard in Hope, hand-picked and WBP, fermented to 15.0% alc. and 14.0 g/L rs. Suitable for vegans. 18.5/20 Dec 2011 RRP $21.99
