Te Kano Chardonnay 2020, Central Otago

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 17-May-2021
Bright, light yellow with a golden hue, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full and elegantly presented ripe stonefruit aromas, lemon curd interweave subtle nutty oak, spices and creamy lees. Medium-bodied, the aroma of lemon, grapefruit peels, peach linger with creamy yoghurt, and white spice lends a slight toffee finish. The mouthfeel is lightly chalky, guided by fine-textured phenolic and electric acidity; the zing lingers to a long, citrusy finish. This is a cool-climate, bony Chardonnay with a citrus lead, subtle creaminess, toffee linger on a chalky palate. Match with kingfish and Cioppino over the next 5 years. Clones 1066, 548 and Mendoza. Predominantly Northburn fruit with around 22% from Jerome Vineyard. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented in French oak barrels to 14% alc, further aged in barrels for 10 months. Partial MLF. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) May 2021 RRP $35
