Te Awanga Estate The One Off The Foudre Chardonnay 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Aug-2020
Bright, light straw-yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is fresh and elegant with aromas of citrus, stonefruit, yellow plums, melded with soft notes of sweet oak elements, raw almond, vanilla, nougat and a touch of spice. Medium-bodied, flavours of citrus and stonefruit has a good core and concentration, interwoven with the foudre sweet oak elements, displaying almond, nougat, soft butter and prickly spices, white floral nuances linger to linearity. The acidity has good tension, flows with good energy, carries spices and give balance to the creamy palate. The mouthfeel is attractive, generous with elegance; creamy soft butter texture melded with powdery phenolic coated the palate with a light cushion. Some pithy grapefruit and white floral linger on the finish, entwined with the lively acidity, sustained a graceful finish. Match with crunchy fried chicken and whitefish with herb crust over the next 3-5 years. Fermented in the foudre to 13.5% alc. Left on yeast lees and occasional battonage for 11 months, gone through MLF. 18.5+/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $29.99
