Te Awanga Estate ‘Strawberry Blonde’ Hawke’s Bay Rosé 2016

Rose from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-Feb-2017
Bright, even, peach-pink colour with pale purple hues on the rim. The nose is fresh and taut with restrained aromas of red berry fruits, yellow stonefruits and steely, mouthwatering, chalky mineral notes, unfolding red florals with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate possesses a rounded but firm core with positive drive and line, revealing subtle red berry fruits along with red florals and mineral elements. The palate flows along a finely-textured line with background acidity, and the wine carries easily to a dry, lingering finish with nuances of red fruits and minerals. This is a soft, textural dry rosé with restrained red berry fruit flavours, but good palate presence and a dry finish. Serve as an aperitif, and match with poultry and pork over the next 2+ years. Merlot fruit from the ‘Te Awanga Estate’ vineyard, vines 10-18 y.o., given 3 hours skin contact and cool-fermented in tank to 13.5% alc., and 0.3 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 17.5-/20 Feb 2017 RRP $24.99
