Bright, full yellow colour with light golden hues. The nose is elegant in expression but deep with unfolding layers of yellow stonefruits. citrus fruits, mealy and nutty notes, creamy barrel-ferment, subtle lemon-curd MLF, and flinty, toasty detail. The aromatics are harmonious, rich, balanced and beautifully integrated. Medium bodied and refined in presentation, the palate exudes waves of lusciously rich and succulent yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits, mealy, biscuit elements and creamy, nutty oak with gentle layers of nuts, smoke and toasty oak. The mouthfeel is seamless in flow, the barrel-ferment smoothness providing a near unctuous mouthfeel. The wine has subtle underling acidity and a fine line that carries to a very long, lingering finish with mealy, nutty and toasty nuances. This is an elegant, refined and rich Chardonnay with seamless layers of complexity. Match with roasted pork and grilled white meats over the next 4+ years. Fruit from a delineated block on the ‘Te Awanga Estate’ vineyard from 25 y.o. Mendoza clone vines, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented on full solids to 12.65% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 50% new French oak barriques with batonnage and approx. 40% MLF. 18.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $34.99
