Very dark, near saturated, purple-hued, black-red colour. The bouquet features vibrantly fresh and ripe aromas of blackberries melded with black pepper, Asian spices, lifted by violet florals and white pepper elements. This has a soft, dense core that unfolds iron-earth and mineral elements in the glass. Medium-full bodied, flavours of ripe blackberries, black pepper, spices, iron-earth and minerals form a concentrated palate core. The fruit is encased by firm, well-extracted tannins and the mouthfeel is one of rip and structure. Fresh, lacy acidity enlivens the flavours and black floral nuances add to the aromatic lift. The wine has underlying power and drive, carrying the flavours to a long, black-fruited, grainy-textured finish. This is a firm-textured, concentrated, lively black-fruited Syrah with aromatic lift, spice and mineral interest. Serve with game meat dishes over the next 6+ years. Hand-picked fruit from a site west of Hastings, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins and aged 14 months in 28% French oak barrels. 18.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $27.99
