Te Awanga Estate Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Jun-2018
Light ruby-red colour with some depth, paler edged with some garnet. The nose has moderate depth showing a complex amalgam of dark-red berry fruit entwined with dark and dried herbs at the core, along with subtle reductive mineral notes, unfolding earthy and floral elements. Medium-bodied, the palate has a sweet and rich heart of ripe, dark-red cherry and berry fruit melded with a subtle layer of dark herbs and earth. The fruit sweetness is supported by light, grainy tannin extraction, and lacy acidity that enlivens the mouthfeel. The palate unveils savoury, earthy detail and the wine carries to a lighter, elegant finish. This is a sweet and rich fruited Pinot Noir with ripe cherry and berry fruit interwoven with complex herbal and earthy notes on a grainy-textured palate with good energy. Match with wild duck and pork, and coq au vin over the next 4 years. Fruit 75% from Te Awanga and 25% from Maraekakaho, fully destemmed and fermented partially with indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in tank and barrel, the barrel portion for over 24 months in around 10-15% new oak. 16.5+/20 Jun 2018 RRP $27.99
