Te Awanga Estate Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Apr-2016
Dark ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. This has a soft, open and accessibly aromatic nose of dark red berry fruit along with nuances of plums and liquorice, and soft suggestions of spices and herbs. The aromatics build in depth, unfolding an array of raspberry and herbal elements. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses softly concentrated, but up-front flavours of raspberry fruit with subtle notes of herbs and spices. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannin structure and soft acidity which enhances the floral lift. The palate is well-textured and has positive linearity carrying the concentrated flavours to a long, lingering, firm and dry finish of dark raspberry fruit. This is a soft-fruited Pinot Noir with flavours of dark raspberries on a palate that grows in firmness and length. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 5+ years. Fruit approx. 70% from the Te Awanga Estate, vines 18-22 y.o. and the remainder from Maraekakaho, fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins and 10 months in seasoned French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Apr 2016 RRP $24.99
