Review Date : 10-Nov-2015
Fruit from the ‘Te Awanga’ vineyard, indigenous yeast fermented, 40% in barrel to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 90% French oak, 17% new, the wine undergoing batonnage and 35% MLF. Bright, even, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has a full and moderately deep and solidly presented nose of yellow stonefruits entwined with lifted yellow florals, nutty barrel-ferment and oak elements and some lemon-curd MLF detail. Medium-bodied, the palate has fresh white and yellow stonefruit flavours which are layered with citrus fruits, delicate nutty oak and gentle waves of lemon-curd MLF. The mouthfeel is fresh, crisp and racy with lively acidity, and a fine, phenolic, textural thread guides the palate, which carries to a long, lingering brisk finish with lemon-curd MLF and nutty oak notes. This is a fresh, crisp, white stonefruited and citrussy Chardonnay with good acidity, linearity and MLF flavours on the finish. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 3+ years. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $24.99 Bright straw-yellow colour with light lemon-gold hues, pale on rim.
