Te Awa ‘Single Estate’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2015
Very dark, purple-hued, black ruby colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is very fresh and primary with tightly bound and penetrating, piquant aromas of ripe blackberry and black pepper in an amalgam with dark herbs, ink and minerals. This has elegance of proportion, the concentration revealing black floral notes. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly concentrated and elegantly presented with bright, vibrant, primary black-berried fruit and black floral flavours entwined with violets, black pepper and soft herbal elements. This has a stylishly concentrated core with very fine-grained flowery tannins and balanced lacy acidity providing linear tension and energy. The wine flows with drive, and carries to a long, concentrated finish of black fruits, florals, herbs and spices. The sweetness of fruit blossoms with time in the glass. This is an elegant, piquantly fresh and aromatic Syrah with tight and youthful concentration and very fine structure. Match with wild duck, pork, lamb and beef over the next 8-10+ years. 100% Syrah fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in 18% new French oak. 19.0-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $34.99
