Te Awa ‘Left Field’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Sep-2011
Very dark, near impenetrable hlack-red colour with purple hues. The nose is full and voluminous, but a little shy in aromatic expression, with black plum, spices and jammy fruits showing. Medium-bodied, this has lush, juicy and vibrant black berry fruit and plum flavours with good intensity and concentration on a mouthfilling, round and supple palate. The tannins are ripe and fine-textured, resulting in a dry, sustained finish, preventing any flabbiness. This will match pizza, pasta and barbecued fare over the next 3-4+ years. This is a blend of 79% Merlot, 11% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak.  Sep 2011 RRP $26.95
