Tastes Like Syrah Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2017

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Nov-2018
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with slight purple tints, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is fine in concentration with good intensity and depth of blackberry fruit entwined with white pepper unfolding notes of dark raspberries, a little liquorice and black pepper nuances, and violet floral elements. Light-medium bodied, the palate has a fine and taut core of blackberry fruit melded with white pepper, dark raspberries, violet and red florals and a little spice. The fruit is supported by fine-grainy tannin extract lending weight and grip, and the acidity is soft and integrated. The wines carries to an elegant, moderately lingering finish. This is a taut Syrah with some intensity, with blackberry and cooler spectrum white pepper and floral notes on a fine, grainy palate with soft acidity. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3 years. Syrah fruit, two thirds from Bridge Pa and one-third from Gimblett, fermented with 50 % whole bunches to 12.0% alc. the wine aged in one-third new oak. 17.0+/20 Nov 2018 RRP $30.00
