Tantalus Estate Merlot/ Cab Franc/ Cab Sauv 2017, Waiheke

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 10-Jun-2021
Medium ruby-red, lighter on edge. The nose is full, with elegance and power; developed aromas of leather, meaty note and an amalgam of spices melded with red berries, plums and a hint of cassis. Full-bodied, red berries, plums interweave smoke, meaty elements, spices linger with ripe fine-grained tannins. Lively acidity persists to a sustained finish with spices. This is a developed red blend with a red-fruited core, bright acid line and developed savoury complexity. Match with beef steak and lamb roast over the next 3-5 years. Fermented in small stainless vessels with indigenous and selected yeasts and bacterias to 13% alc, aged in French and American oak barrels for 10 months. 18.5/20 (93 pts) June 2021 RRP $58
