Tantalus Ecluse Reserve Cabernets/ Merlot/ Malbec 2017, Waiheke Island

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 31-Jul-2023
Moderately deep ruby-red with a slight bricking, lighter on the rim. The nose is full and appealing, with cassis, strawberry, blueberry, violet, sweet spice and leather aromas. Full-bodied, cassis, strawberry and blueberry aromas entwined with violet, vanilla, star anise and leather. The mouthfeel is velvety with fine-grained tannins, unfolding spices as the wine aerated. Accompanied by lively acidity, provide structure and power, and lend a sustained, elegant finish. This red blend is harmonious and nicely developed, with power, a fine-grained structure, and a lengthy finish. Match with braised short ribs and t-bone steak over the next 5+ years. Handpicked Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec, fermented in stainless steel open-top fermenters with indigenous and selected yeasts to 13% alc. Basket pressed to primarily new French oak for 12 months of ageing, no fining. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) July 2023 RRP $110
