Tantalus Ecluse Reserve Cabernets/ Merlot/ Malbec 2016, Waiheke

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 10-Jun-2021
Deep ruby-black, lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly full; herbaceous aromas lead the bouquet with tobacco, cedar and leather, underlined black plums, cassis, violet hints and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, bright fruit of cassis, black plums and berries enriched by smoky cedar, sweet tobacco; unveiling soft leather, menthol, spices of nutmeg and cloves. The wine is complex and full of interest; balanced acidity lengthens the palate, adorned by fine-grained tannins. The wine shows strength and power, and elegant developments. Match with tomahawk and braised short ribs over the next 6+ years. Fermented in stainless steel open-top fermenters with indigenous and selected yeasts to 13.5% alc, aged in Fench oak for 12 months, primarily new. No fining. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) June 2021 RRP $105
