Tantalus Écluse Reserve Bordeaux Blend 2019, Waiheke Island

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-May-2024
Full, deep ruby-red, lighter on the rim. This has an elegant, gently evolving bouquet with aromas of black plum, raspberry, cassis, dark herbs, leather, cedar, spice and meaty nuances. Full-bodied, aromas of black plum entwined with raspberry, cassis, dark herbs and cedar, unveiling leather, dark cocoa and meaty mealiness. The wine is rich and concentrated; powdery tannins smoothly flow along a tangy, attractive acid line. Dark cocoa, leather, and mealy layers emerge, lending a satisfying, sustained closing. This Cabernet predominant blend is alluring and elegantly composed with fresh acidity, a complex array of flavours, richness and concentration. Match with braised beef short ribs over the next 10 years. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Malbec, handpicked, manually sorted for best berries, cold soaked in stainless steel, fermented in batches wild and inoculated to 14% alc, aged in French oak for 18 months. Unfined. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) May 2024 RRP $110
