Tantalus Cachette Reserve chardonnay 2021, Waiheke Island

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-May-2024
Bright, even, pale yellow with a light green sheen. The nose is elegant with gentle layers, aromas of stonefruit, citrus and melon melded with marzipan, vanilla and delicate spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of nectarine, peach and melon entwined with citrus preserve, unfolding almond, vanilla and spices. The wine is integrated and harmonious. Fine acid tension persists with refined spices on a gently creamy mouthfeel, unveiling integration and development. This Chardonnay possesses harmonious flavours with elegant layers and a sophisticated palate. Match with roasted guinea fowl and grouper over the next 5+ years. Hanpicked, whole bunch pressed in vertical basket and fermented on high solids in a concrete egg using a combination of indigenous and selected house yeasts. Aged in French oak for 12 months, 40% new oak. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2024 RRP $105
