Tantalus Cachette Reserve Chardonnay 2020, Waiheke Island

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 22-Mar-2023
Bright, pale straw-yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full, with aromas of apricot and nectarine intertwined with lemon curd and nutty layers. Medium-full bodied, aromas of apricot and nectarine melded with lemon curd, hazelnut paste, popcorn, delicate spice and a suggestion of melon. The wine is integrated, showing harmonious, soft layers, unfolding refined spice with nutty elements on the closing. Match with chicken ballotine and baked hapuka over the next 5 years. Whole bunch pressed with no sulphur added, racked to oak, fermented with indigenous and selected yeasts to 13.5% alc, 3.4g/l RS, aged in 225-litre barriques for 12 months, 40% new oak, partial MLF. Regular battonage and minimal fining. 18.5+/20 (94 pts) Mar 2023 RRP $115
