Tantalus Cachette Reserve Chardonnay 2019, Waiheke

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 10-Jun-2021
Bright, pale yellow with some depth, slightly lighter edged. The nose is warming and gently packed with nuances of barrel spices, toasted seeds and creamy hints, underlined tropical fruit lead and citrus. Medium-full bodied, aromas of lemon, melon and papaya interweave creamy and smoky lees, unfolding spicy roasted nuts. Creamy flow lingers with spices to a warm, sustained finish. Taut acidity cut through the creaminess, provide balance; fine-textured phenolic added to the mouthfeel. This is a creamy Chardonnay with tropical fruit feature and elegantly bright barrel details. Match with grilled pork chops and crayfish over the next 6+ years. Handpicked, whole bunch, basket pressed, indigenous and selected yeasts fermented in French oak to 13.5% alc, 3.1 g/l RS, aged in barriques for 10 months, 40% new oak. Partial MLF, regular lees stirred, minimal fining. 18.5+/20 pst (94 pts) June 2021 RRP $105
