Tankersley Estate Pinot Noir 2016, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 19-Aug-2020
Deep, ruby-red with some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly portioned with power, nuances of red and black cherries, plums, herbs, along with barrel spices of vanilla, nutmeg, cedar and smoke, unveiling game and earth development. Medium-bodied, a concentrated core of red and black cherries, plums, along with cedar, spices, unfolding liquorice, grapefruit pith and gamey savouriness. The fruit is dense with concentration and intensity, youthful in appearance, showing subtle development towards plums. Well-structured, silky tannin, noticeably fine-grained with a good grip, supporting the development of herbaceous, dried herbs, liquorice, complex spices; along with lacy acidity, carries the wine to a rich and dark flavoured finish. This is an elegant, harmonious Pinot Noir with flavours of primary fruit, subtle complexing developments of cedar, game, herbaceous and liquorice on a well-structured tannin grip. Match with venison and roasted duck over the next 5+ years. 18.5+/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $34.95
