Taimana Waitaki Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 03-Dec-2018
Dark red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim with slight garnet-brick hues. The bouquet is softly full and voluminous with well-packed, deeply concentrated and harmoniously interwoven aromas of dark-red berry and plum fruit entwined with a layering of dried herbs, undergrowth and mushrooms, and complexing whole bunch stalk perfumes. Medium-full bodied, the palate is lively and vibrant with flavours of savoury dark red berries and plums melded with complex and integrated notes of dried herbs, undergrowth, truffles, and whole bunch stalk elements. The freshness of the mouthfeel is enhanced by piquant acidity, and the fruit forms a fine, concentrated core that is underlined by fine-grained, flowery-textured tannins that are just beginning to resolve. A little alcohol power adds to the drive, and the wine carries to a long, complex-nuanced, sustained finish. This is a rich and vibrant, savoury and complex layered and detailed Pinot Noir with dark berry and plum fruit with dried herb and undergrowth notes on a very fine-textured palate, showing very good development. Match with game meat and casseroles over the next 5+ years. Clones 5 and 115, from the Waitaki Valley, vines planted in 2001, fermented with 25% whole bunches to 13.6% alc., the wine aged 11 months in one-third new French Mercurey oak. 19.0/20 Dec 2018 RRP $95.00
