Swift Syrah 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 15-Sep-2021
Full, deep ruby-red, lighter on the rim with a purple hue. The nose is gently full, mealy aromas of game, savoury elements, underlying black plums and berries with a hint of black pepper. Medium-full bodied, succulent fruit of black plums and berries intermix red fruit, followed by subtle black pepper, smoke and gaminess. The wine is rounded, with subtleties, slowly unfolding; dusty tannin extraction leaves a smooth grip. The fruit has good balanced ripeness and complexity, carries to a lengthy, savoury finish. Match this with lamb koftas and smoked meat over the next 5 years. Fruit from Bridge Pa Triangle, handpicked, clone Chave (60%) & MS (40%), natural yeast fermented to 12.5%, hand plunged. On skins for 23 days, aged in barrels for 22 months. Unfined, unfiltered. 1,143 bottles produced. 18.5+/20 (94 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $40
