Summerhouse Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2016

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Sep-2018
Dark, even, ruby-red colour with slight purple hues on the rim. The nose is elegant in proportion with a rounded core of dark plum fruit intermixed with earthy notes and fresh and dark herbs, a little mint and spice. This is a little rustic in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate has savoury flavours of dark-red and black plums entwined with dark herbs and earth, forming an up-front, open core. The flavours are supported by grainy tannin extraction and grip lending a drying firmness, with integrated acidity. The wine carries to a light, savoury herb nuanced finish. This is a moderately rustic Merlot with flavours of earthy and savoury plums with herb notes and grainy textures. Serve with grilled and barbecued red meats over the next 3 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., a portion of the wine aged in barrel with 30% new equivalence. 16.5/20 Sep 2018 RRP $18.99
