Stoneleigh ‘Wild Valley’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Feb-2016
Bright straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues at the heart, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full and well-concentrated with complex, harmoniously layered aromas of ripe, yellow stonefruits, savoury mealy and nutty elements integrated with creamy barrel-ferment and MLF waves, and some funky smoke nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate is softly concentrated with interwoven and complex flavours of ripe, yellow stonefruits, savoury mealy, nutty notes, creamy oak and buttery elements with smoky detail. The mouthfeel is smooth and seamless, underlined by very fine textures, the acidity soft and integrated. This has a positive core that carries to a long nutty, mealy and nutty finish. This is a softly concentrated, harmoniously layered Chardonnay with complex flavours of savoury stonefruits, nutty oak and funky, smoky detail. Match with tapas, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4 years. Chardonnay fruit from the ‘Squire’ vineyard, Rapaura, indigenous yeast fermented, approx. two-thirds in barriques and one-third in 7,500 L cuves to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 14.44% new oak, undergoing batonnage with 100% MLF. 18.0/20 Mar 2016 RRP $18.99
