A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Even ruby-garnet red with some depth, lighter on rim. The nose is initially light, showing fresh red berry and plum aromas with fresh herbs, but blossoms, revealing redcurrants, dried herbs, liquorice and spicy oak, filling the bouquet. Medium-bodied, sweet and savoury, spicy plum and liquorice fruit flavours are supported by a fine-grained, firm tannin line. Cedary oak and dried herbal notes are prominent. The palate features brisk and racy acidity which provides a lively mouthfeel and carries the spicy, cedar and plum flavours to a long, dry, firm finish. This is an elegant Merlot in the cool-spectrum with liquorice and oak flavours carried by fresh acidity. Serve with pizza, pasta and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 Nov 2013 RRP $40.00
