Stonecroft ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Nov-2013
Hand-picked fruit from Mere Road and Roy’s Hill, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 25% new French oak. Full, dark, deep ruby-red with black hues and youthful purple hues on rim. The bouquet is full and packed with deep and dense aromas of ripe black fruits, minerals and earth, unfolding black pepper, Asian spices, mineral and tar-like detail. Medium-full bodied, softly concentrated and packed flavours of ripe black berry fruits, spicy plums and liquorice form a weight palate with good presence. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction and structure, with fresh, underlying acidity providing a firm, driven line. The flavours flow with good power and liveliness, carrying through to a solid, concentrated finish of liquorice and minerals. This is a softly concentrated Syrah with black fruits, liquorice and mineral layers on a fresh, well-structured and fine palate. Serve with game meat and casseroles over the next 7-8+ years. 18.5+/20 Nov 2013 RRP $65.00
