Stonecroft ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-May-2011
Fruit from the Mere Road and Roy's Hill sites, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine the aged in French oak for at least 18 months. Moderately deep, darkish ruby-red in colour with purple hues, this has a tight, intense and concentrated, youthful bouquet of black fruits, black pepper and earthy aromas along with an intriguing mineral and liquorice amalgam and some resiny oak notes. Medium-full bodied, there are attractively lush, but restrained, ripe and sweet fruit flavours of black berry fruits, pepper and spices all with good depth, sitting with a supple, softly textured palate. The gentleness belies the structure, which along with balanced acidity, will allow this wine to develop greater interest and complexity over the next 8-12+ years. Serve with grilled and roasted meat dishes. 18.0+/20 May 2011 RRP $60.00
