Stonecroft ‘Old Vine’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Nov-2013
Hand-picked fruit, WBP and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned oak, with 100% MLF. Bright, full straw-yellow colour with slight golden hues, pale on edge. This has an elegantly proportioned nose, initially shy, but growing in intensity to show a concentrated core of citrus and stonefruits, with positive barrel-ferment creamy, nutty notes and toasty complexities. Medium-bodied, the palate is slender and somewhat shy at first, but opens to show deep and concentrated, complex flavours of citrus fruits, mealy, biscuit and nutty elements and toasty oak. The mouthfeel is creamy from the barrel-ferment and fruit extract, with enlivening, fresh, underlying acidity. Some alcohol power emerges and along with the acidity drives the palate with cut, carrying the citrus and mealy, nutty layers to a long, sustained finish. This is an elegant and complex, creamy, nutty Chardonnay that grows in layers and richness. Serve with roasted or grilled seafood, poultry or pork over the next 5-6 years. 18.5/20 Nov 2013 RRP $50.00
