Stone Paddock by Paritua Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Apr-2018
Very dark, deep, saturated black-red colour with some purple hues, youthful in appearance. The nose is full and bold with very ripe aromas of blackberries and black plums along with subtle notes of dark herbs, unfolding cassis and black mineral elements. The aromatics show depth and density. Full-bodied, the palate has richly sweet, up-front and mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberries and black plums, and nuances of boysenberries. Cassis, dark herbs emerge to add detail. The fruit is plush and driven by alcohol power, with fine-grained tannin extraction adding to the presence. Underlying acidity lends linearity, and the flavours carry to a densely concentrated, long finish of ripe black fruits, herbs and minerals. This is a richly sweet, bold and luscious, ripe Merlot with blackberry and plum flavours with herb and cassis interest on a fine, but driven palate. Match with game meat dishes over the next 6-8 years. Merlot fruit from the ‘Paritua’ vineyard, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 20% new French oak barriques. 18.0+/20 Apr 2018 RRP $24.99
