Stone Bridge ‘North Slope’ Gisborne Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 28-Apr-2014
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with light purple hues, youthful in appearance. The nose is mellow and has gently interwoven aromas of ripe red berry fruits, dark plums and red currants, along with nuances of earth, spice and smoky oak. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, the fruit is a little restrained, but shows lush red plum and berry fruit flavours along with oak spices. The flavours are enlivened by the acidity, which provides a racy, bright and juicy mouthfeel. Modest extraction and supple tannins enable accessibility and lend a smooth flow, carrying the flavours to a light, dry and crisp finish. This is a fresh, bright, supple Merlot with some juiciness and acid energy. Serve with pasta, pork and veal over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit fermented to 13.7% alc., the wine on skins 14 days, and aged a year in 30% new French oak barrels. 17.0-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $23.00
