Steve Bird Big Barrel Pinot Noir 2019, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-Sep-2022
Deep ruby-red, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is full and forward, with aromas of black cherry, red plum interweave violet, dark herbs and spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of ripe plum and black cherry melded with thyme, bay leaf and violet, unfolding liquorice, cinnamon and pepper, linger to a savoury, rich-flavoured closing. The fruit shows depth and concentration, with rich and broody herbaceous elements. Smooth, finely extracted tannins provide a light grip. This broody Pinot Noir possesses generous dark fruit, herb details and a savoury, sustained finish. Match with herb-crusted lamb and venison over the next 5 years. Fermented in small batch fermentation vessels to 13.6% alc. Aged in 900 Litre barrels. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $42
