Starborough ‘Single Vineyard’ Awatere Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Sep-2016
Light golden-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the edge. The bouquet is firmly concentrate and intense with great depth of complex aromas, showing yellow stonefruits entwined with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes along with savoury flinty detail and suggestions of lemon-curd MLF. Medium-full bodied, complex flavours of yellow stonefruits are melded with firm, creamy barrel-ferment notes, nutty oak and flinty elements, and nuances of lemon-curd MLF. The flavours are mouthfilling and the palate has weight and presence, with a light-textured framework enlivened by fresh acid tension and carried by some underlying power. The wine carries to a complex, lingering, savoury stonefruited nutty and flinty finish. This is a full-flavoured, complex-layered Chardonnay with stonefruit, nutty and flinty flavours on a fine-textured palate with poise and power. Serve with poultry, pork and veal dishes over the next 4+ years. Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Long Lane’ Dashwood vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new French oak with batonnage and 100% MLF. 18.5/20 Sep 2016 RRP $30.00
