Starborough ‘Family Estate’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Sep-2016
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some depth, and lighter purple hues on the rim. The nose is full and finely concentrated with deep aromas of dark-red berry and cherry fruit intermingling with red florals, dark herbs, some red liquorice and hints of fennel. Medium-full bodied, this has a rich and well-packed and densely flavoured palate with ripe dark-red berry and cherry fruit along with dark herbs, liquorice, raspberry liqueur and spice notes. The palate has an underlying richness balanced by soft, supple tannin extraction and structure and integrated acidity which adds to the richness and soft mouthfeel. The wine carries to a long, lingering, soft finish of dark cherry and berry fruit with herb and liquorice notes. This is a moderately rich and well concentrated Pinot Noir with red cherry, berry and liquorice notes and a soft, supple structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 115, 667 and 777, 75% from ‘O’Dwyers Farm’, Rapaura and 25% from ‘Long Lane’, Awatere, indigenous yeast fermented with 10% whole clusters to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 35% new French oak. 18.0/20 Sep 2016 RRP $28.00
