Starborough Awatere Valley Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 03-Jun-2014
Fruit from the ‘Starborough Terrace' vineyard in the Awatere Valley hand harvested and WBP, fermented with 20% in barrel to 14.0% alc. and 6.5 g/L rs. Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour with green hues, pale on rim. This has a full, voluminous, but firm and powerfully intense nose of ripe pears, subtly spiced and with yellow stonefuit nuances, the expression with a degree of restraint. Dry to taste, this has stylish, near-ethereal flavours of white stonefruits and ripe pears, harmoniously melded with soft, unctuous textures on the palate. This has fruit weight and depth that builds, and contributes to great mouthfeel and presence. Soft acidity and balanced alcohol power are integrated and the wine is very accessible. The wine has a long and sustained finish with soft, rich and honied pear flavours. A stylishly flavoured Pinot Gris with underlying power and weight to serve with pates, and rich poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 130 cases made. 18.5+/20 Dec 2011 RRP $27.95
