Staete Landt Marlborough Viognier 2013

Viognier from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Jul-2014
Bright, pale golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is full and voluminous with softly packed aromas of ripe orange and mandarin zest, along with exotic tropical fruits and florals harmoniously melded, exuding opulence. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, rich and luscious flavours of citrus zest and tropical fruits form a rounded core, blossoming to fill the mouth. The fruit is refreshed and enlivened by bright acidity, providing lift, and lacy energy. A fine phenolic thread underlines the fruit, lending structure to the palate richness, and carrying the wine to a long, sustained, softly textured, exotic finish. This is a rich, exotic Viognier with orange and tropical fruit flavours that blossom, and a fresh, lively, softly textured mouthfeel. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the middle four rows of the estate, the hottest area, hand-picked WBP, and fermented in seasoned French oak to 14.0% alc. and 6 g/L RS, the wine aged 8 months on lees. 65 cases made. 18.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $39.00
