Staete Landt Marlborough Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Jun-2011
Clones 95 and 15 from four parcels, hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, fully barrel-fermented, 20% in new French puncheons, half of the wine by natural yeasts to 14.0% alc. After 8 months, the wine was transferred to old barrels for another 10 months maturation. Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and a pale edge, this has a beautifully elegant but very intense bouquet of ripe citrus and mealy fruit, rich, spicy, nutty oak and creamy barrel-ferment aromatics. A wine of great finesse allied to concentration, the citrusy fruit and nutty oak are very tightly bound. The toastiness and oaking is a little dominant, but contributes a wonderful creamy texture to the mouthfeel, which is balanced by fine acidity. The flavours develop in the glass, revealing detail and nuances and the flavours are long and sustained. Match with rich seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 5-6 years. 19.0-/20 Jun 2011 RRP $29.00
