Stad_ko Wines Chardonnay 2020, Martinborough

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 24-Sep-2021
Bright, moderate straw-yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is soft, penetrating aromas of oyster shells, yellow apple, a hint of stonefruit, underlined barrel spice, and lightly struck match nuance. Medium-bodied, well-rounded palate with aromas of apple, stonefruit, grapefruit peels, unveiling delicate spices and a creamy layer. The wine has refined features of creaminess, flinty barrel-fermented details with balanced fruit, subtle oyster mineral flow with lacy acidity, and an elegant, lingering finish. This is a minerally Chardonnay with balanced fruit, enriched by spice and flint barrel-fermentation details on a creamy MLF mouthfeel. Match with fish pie and battered oysters over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked clone 15 and Mendoza, whole bunch pressed to barrel, fermented to 12.7% alc, rested on lees for 10 months. Vegan friendly. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $34
