St John’s Road ‘Blood & Courage’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 05-Jul-2015
Shiraz fruit from the ‘Seppeltsfield’, ‘Stonewell’, ‘Bethany’ and ‘Ebenezer’ sub-districts fermented to 14.0$ alc., the wine aged 15 months in French oak hogsheads. Full, near saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is elegant in proportion with aromas of ripe dark plums, raspberries and liquorice evenly presented with good depth and demsity. The fruit is youthful and primary, revealing some black pepper and subtle, spicy, cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, bright and finely concentrated flavours of dark red plums dark raspberries, liquorice and black pepper form a positive core with good depth. Nuances of spices and cedary oak unfold, with fragrant peppery elements adding interest. The fruit is underlined by fine, grainy tannin grip and structure that carries the wine to a sinewy finish with refreshing acidity and flavours of plums and berries. This is an elegantly concentrated, bright plummy-fruited Shiraz with sweetness and a fine, grainy line. Serve with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2015 RRP $24.99
