Squawking Magpie ‘The Gravels’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-May-2016
Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour. This has a full, broad and bold nose of ripe tropical fruit intermingling with savoury citrus fruits and yellow stonefruits, melded with layers of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak, lifted fermentation esters and buttery and butterscotch-like MLF. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of ripe tropical fruits and citrus fruits are powerful and fulsome, and entwined with layers of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty, toasty oak, and buttery MLF. The mouthfeel is rich and plush with an underlying soft, phenolic line guiding the flow. This has good energy with poised acidity and driving power. The wine carries to a strong, sustained finish with lifted notes and fermentation esters, complexed by nutty and creamy elements. This is a full, bold flavoursome Chardonnay with ripe tropical fruit, lifted esters and creamy, nutty and buttery richness. Match with roast pork over the next 4-5 years. A single vineyard wine, clones 95 and Mendosa, the fruit hand-picked and barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new oak with 100% MLF. 18.0/20 Apr 2016 RRP $29.95
