Squawking Magpie ‘The Chatterer’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-May-2013
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable purple-hued red colour. This has an elegant but intense nose with fragrant violetty florals, white and black pepper and dark herbal aromas, lifted with spicy oak with a bacony-toast note. Medium-bodied, up-front and juicy flavours of sweet black fruits, white pepper and dark herbs grow with richness on the mid-palate. This has a lush, supple mouthfeel with fine, grainy tannins and fresh acidity, lifting some toasty oak. The flavours recede to a restrained, but lingering finish with white pepper and floral elements. This is a juicy, supple, refreshing and elegant Syrah with white pepper, floral notes and spices. Match with Mediterranean-influenced fare over the next 3-4+ years. 93% Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels and 7% Viognier from a Gimblett area hill site, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak. 17.0+/20 May 2013 RRP $24.95
