Squawking Magpie ‘The Chatterer’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2012

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-May-2013
91.6% Merlot and 8.4% Malbec from the company’s vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.25% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak. Very full, dark, deep, purple-black red colour. The bouquet is alittle restrained and elegant with harmoniously entwined aromas of blackcurrants, spicy black plums, and lifted oak along with underlying fresh herbal nuances. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of dark berries and blackcurrants, mint and fresh herbs are tightly bound, showing moderate depth and density. The mouthfeel is soft, with drying grainy tannins that prevail on palate, driving the line to a softly fragrant finish with some length. This is a tightly bound Merlot-based wine with dark curranty and herby flavours and a soft, drying palate. Serve with roasted red meats over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $24.95
