Squawking Magpie ‘The Chatterer’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Mar-2016
Full, near impenetrable, black-hued red with purple hues. This has an elegantly penetrating and concentrated nose of ripe blackberry and black plum fruit harmoniously melded with black pepper and an amalgam of spices and black florals. Medium-bodied, the palate is well proportioned with a dense and softly concentrated core of ripe blackberries, boysenberries and black plums, along with black pepper and spice nuances. The mouthfeel is soft with supple, mouthfilling tannins, and the roundness of the palate is enhanced by soft acidity. The wine carries to an even, mellow but well-packed finish of blackberry fruit. This is a softly concentrated Syrah with ripe flavours of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, and a supple, rounded mouthfeel. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 4+ years. A single estate wine, fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in oak. 17.5-/20 Mar 2016 RRP $24.95
