Squawking Magpie ‘SQM’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernets/Merlot 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Aug-2016
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, near impenetrable, a little lighter edged. The nose is full, powerful and up-front with bold and rich, voluminous, but concentrated aromas of ripe blackcurrants, cassis liqueur, blackberries and a fine thread of dark herbs, the fruit entwined with decadent spicy and cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is full, opulent and rounded with exotic, succulently sweet and ripe black fruits along with black plum elements, melded with spicy and toasty oak. The flavours are mouthfilling forming a concentrated, solidly rounded core with real depth, unfolding layers of iron-earth, minerals and spicy, cedary oak. Very fine-grained tannins provide structure and firmness of line, carrying to a textured finish of black fruits and spicy oak. This is a fully structured, solidly packed Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend with opulent and succulent black fruits and exotic oaking. 12+ years. A blend of 62.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 12.5% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 33% new French oak. 19.0+/20 Sep 2016 RRP $79.00
