Squawking Magpie Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Jul-2013
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with light lemon-green hues, lighter on rim. This has an elegant and slender bouquet with finely expressed white and yellow stonefruit aromas, along with subtle notes of steel and flint, the oaking very sensitive. Medium-bodied, tightly restrained and rather delicate flavours of savoury yellow stonefruits sit harmoniously alongside citrus and nutty, toasty oak elements. The mouthfeel is fine featured with a discreet core and balanced acidity. A little alcohol emerges adding to the drive, carrying the gentle flavours of citrus fruits, smoke and toast to a very long. Lingering finish. This is a restrained and elegant Chardonnay with subtle underlying power and length. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 57% clone 15 and 43% Mendoza Chardonnay fruit, fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 25% new French oak barrels, with approx. 50% undergoing MLF. 17.5/20 Jul 2013 RRP $33.95
