Spy Valley ‘Single Vineyard’ Marlborough Merlot/Malbec 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 25-Nov-2016
Dark, deep, black-red colour with purple hues, youthful in appearance. The nose is soft and gently full with ripe fruit aromas of dark plum and blackberry fruit harmoniously melded with hints of spice, fruitcake and earth. Medium-full bodied, this has a fulsome palate with a softly concentrated core, packed with ripe fruit flavours of dark-red plums and blackberries. Entwined with spice notes, dark herbs, a hint of chocolate and earth. The fruit is framed by fine, grainy tannin extraction, and soft acidity enhances the fruit richness and depth. The wine carries with good drive to a soft, dry-textured, lingering finish of black plums and berry fruit, spices and earth. This is a well-structured, grainy Merlot and Malbec blend with ripe plum and black berried fruits, spices and earth notes. Match with roasted lamb and beef dishes, and with casseroles over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 68% Merlot 26% Malbec and 6% Syrah from the ‘Johnson Estate’ ‘G’ and ‘Lodge’ blocks, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 29% new French oak barrels. 17.5/20 Nov 2016 RRP $23.00
