Spy Valley Marlborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Jan-2015
Fruit from ‘Johnson Estate’ and contract growers, 70% hand-picked, and fermented in oak and stainless-steel to 14.5% alc. and 9.4 g/L RS. Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of light gold, paler on rim. This has a full and open bouquet with good vinous presence and stylish aromas of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with subtle honeysuckle and exotic floral notes. Some spicy detail becomes revealed with aeration. Off-dry to taste, the palate has good body, mouthfeel and weight, with softly rich flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and honeysuckle. The wine is plush and rounded with very delicate, fine textures and soft, ripe acidity. Some alcohol drive and power underlines the palate, leading to a long, lingering, honied and subtly nuanced finish. This is a soft, rich and plush, honied, off-dry Pinot Gris with good alcohol drive. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. 18.0/20 Jan 2015 RRP $25.00
