Spy Valley Marlborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 13-Jan-2016
Bright pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter edged. The nose is full and voluminous with softly packed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits harmoniously melded with flinty lees and reductive complexities. Citrus fruit and nutty oak detail unfolds with aeration and the aromatics grow in depth in the glass. Medium-bodied, the palate is crisp and refreshing with concentrated flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and flinty, minerally lees notes. The fruit flavours are enlivened by the bright acidity, lending energy and drive to the fine-textured palate line. Subtle layers of nutty oak emerge and the wine is carried to a sustained finish of stonefruits and flint. This is a fresh, lively, well-concentrated Chardonnay with stonefruit and flinty complexities. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit, 6 different clones, from the ‘Johnson’ and ‘Outpost’ vineyards, fully barrel-fermented, approx. 75% by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new oak, with 100% MLF. 18.5/20 Jan 2016 RRP $22.00
