Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ ‘Outpost’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2012

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Jan-2014
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with depth, lighter on rim. The bouquet is full and solidly packed with fresh, ripe yellow stonefruit aromas harmoniously infused with pears, honey and the subtlest hint of spices. Sweet to taste, rich and upfront, mouthfilling flavours of yellow stonefruits, pears and honey with a little nuttiness is the feature on the palate. The mouthfeel is soft, rounded and near-unctuous, very smooth-flowing with restrained acidity. This hints at decadence with tropical fruit and exotic elements unfolding from the deep core. The flavours carry through to a soft, lush finish with honied notes and fine acid balance. This is a softly rich and near unctuous late-picked Pinot Gris with smooth textures and honied pear flavours. Match with baked desserts over the next 4+ years. ‘Lincoln-Berrysmith’ clone from 0.2 ha, in the ‘Top Terrace’ of the ‘Outpost’ vineyard, picked on 27 June, the fruit well-shrivelled at 29°Brix with no botrytis, fermented in an old barrique to 12.5% alc. and 82 g/L RS. 225 Litres produced. (375 ml) 18.0+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $32.00
