Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Jan-2014
Hand-picked Bordeaux clone fruit from 75% ‘River’ block and 25% ‘E Block’, fermented in various oak vessels to 13.5% alc. and 2.1 g/L RS, the wine aged 11 months on oak on lees with partial MLF. Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on edge. The nose is elegant and fresh with intensely expressed aromas of nectarines, greengages and fresh herbs along with subtle spicy, nutty oak notes, and cooler spectrum gooseberry and nettle-like fruit suggestions, all harmoniously entwined. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, tightly concentrated and intensely penetrating flavours of nectarines and green stonefruits form a well-packed core. Spicy oak elements add layers of detail and support the fruit, providing the palate with weight, fine textures and depth. The flavours are vibrant and the mouthfeel is fresh with great vitality and tension, from racy and brisk, biting acidity. The acidity and fine phenolics carry the powerful flavours to a very long, linear, dry finish. This is a very fresh and vibrantly racy, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with intensely concentrated flavours and detailing. Match with seafood and herb-marinated poultry dishes over the next 3+ years. 18.5+/20 Jan 2013 RRP $32.00
