Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ Marlborough Riesling 2010

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 06-Jan-2014
Fruit from the oldest plantings in ‘D Block’ of Johnson Estate, hand-picked in one pass, WBP and fermented in oak to 7.0% alc. and 88 g/L RS, with TA 9.4 g/L and 2.89 pH, the wine aged 4 months on lees. Bright, even, very pale straw, near colourless on edge. This has a very intense and tightly bound nose of piquant lemonade and mineral aromas infused with a subtle thread of toastiness, the bouquet positively refined and mouthwatering. Medium –sweet to sweet to taste, intense and tightly concentrated flavours of lemonade and minerals are laced with delicate toasty notes. The mouthfeel is crisp with steely, near-searing and cutting acidity that carries the palate with a racy slipperiness. Fruit extract is a feature and the fine phenolic handling has provided a driven linearity and grip that balances the sweetness, carrying the flavours to a very long and sustained, zesty finish. This is a very tightly concentrated sweet Riesling with lemonade and mineral flavours and cutting acidity that is beginning to show some toasty complexity. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 5-6 years. 18.5/20 Jan 2014 RRP $32.00
